Containerized Desalination System Shipped

Containerized desalination systems are a great answer when the R/O systems are going to be placed remotely, or to save the cost of a building. Depending on the size of the system, A 20 foot or 40 foot ISO container is used. Shown here is an 8000 gallon/day system in a 20 foot container. Manifolds on the outside of the container make for easy connections. It may be heated or air conditioned for comfort. The control system on the system may be customized for remote monitoring.

Surface Water Filtration Skid

There are times when water needs to be purified but the problems with the feed water are sediment, bacteria, organics, color and.or odor. The amount of chlorides and sodium and other salts are less than 500 ppm tds which are acceptable levels for potable water or process water, so a reverse osmosis system is not needed. This feed water may be surface water or from a well. Lifestream produces filtration skids designed for the end user. An example shown here processes 500 gallons/minute of surface water from lakes, rivers and streams to be used for wash water in Canadian oil fields.

New Ultrafiltration Skid Feeds Reverse Osmosis and EDI Unit

Lifestream™ Watersystems Inc. has implemented cutting edge technology from Dow Chemical Company on a new Ultra Filtration skid to run in conjunction with an R/O. Ultrafiltration is a heavyweight filtration process capturing suspended solids and solutes with especially high molecular weight. This skid is designed to pull water from the most polluted sources in the world. Like most large-scale Lifestream™ products, this skid was built custom to meet the client’s specification of having full redundancy to provide uninterrupted 24 hour service. When one side of the unit is cleaning itself the other side is running, automatically oscillating to allow for the most reliable product water and run time.  

The second stage of the system is a dual R/O with electrodeionization units designed to deliver ultra pure water. This quality is demanded by many industrial sectors for a myriad of specialized applications. The Lifestream™ UF16X in conjunction with the BWHP9 is designed to transform some of the most compromised of our Earth’s surface water into a high purity product.

Chuuk Islands Mobile Emergency Water Unit

As a humanitarian gesture to the people of the Chuuk State in Micronesia, the Church of Latter Day Saints has donated a Lifestream 26,000 gallon/day desalination unit with a genset constructed inside a mobile trailer.  Presented to the local utility in October 2010, on hand were local dignitaries and church officials.  The 2 day trip to assist in the demo and training was made by Ed Kimmel, President of Lifestream.  It was reminiscent for him.  He had travelled to the Marshall Islands during a water emergency years back and had the similar experience of children dancing in the water as it came gushing out of the system after a long local drought.

After a 6 week transit, the trailer arrived in Chuuk and cleared customs the day before the presentation.  It was up and operational within hours of arriving at the Church facility.

Whether it be a system for US Fish and Wildlife at Tern Island, at Cornell University’s Field Campus off the Coast of Maine, or at a resort in Little Cayman, islands are unique in that their beauty with water all around doesn’t always mean there is water to drink, especially as droughts come and go.

Lifestream supplies systems for island use that can operate not only from local power but gensets and solar.  Lifestream diligently tackles the challenges of remote access for equipment delivery, service and parts support.

Water Research Trip to Argentinian Glacier

Earlier this year the staff of Lifestream was on the go searching for the best tasting water on the planet to serve as a standard for the quality of water to strive for as we further develop the technology of Lifestream’s water purification equipment.

We were in Argentina in March of 2012 for some important touring and exploration.

One of the trips which we embarked on was a visit to one of the few self sustaining glaciers in the world in Argentinian Patagonia - The Perito Moreno Glacier.  The glacier is 250 km2 in area and 30 km in length and 5 km wide at the face. The total ice depth is 174m and with about 74 m above the surface of the lake it drains into and 100 m of ice below the level of Lake Argentino.

We had heard great stories about the amazing quality of the melted glacier water from this Andean Ice field.  The plan was to travel on the glacier with and experienced guide to see and taste the amazing glacial water first hand.
The only way to access the glacier is on a specially equipped ship which can weather the icebergs and stray rocks in the lake approaching the glacier.

After the boat docks, there is about a 1½ km walk to the glacier where the Lifestream crew is fitted with crampons to allow one to hike into the heart of the glacier safely if all goes well.

We were happy to learn that our guide was the world renowned glacier guide and mountain climber Leonardo.  He has had over 10 years of guiding in the Andes and particularly in the glacial ice fields. He instructed us on the proper use of crampons which is necessary to avoid ending the day in a crevasse which are everywhere on a glacier.

As one climbs onto the glacier one is amazed at the noise of the glacier moving and splitting and fracturing. It sounds like muted rifle shots and brings home the fact that this is dynamic, almost living system.

A good deal of time as spent on the glacier surface skirting crevasses and avoiding sink holes filled with deep blue glacial melt water which disappear into the core of the ice.

At last we arrive at the source of the purest of glacial water.
